Welcome to my blog. This is my first attempt at posting on a blog and done at the insistence of my daughter Ghazalah. She had to explain the basics
For me a Blog was hitherto as taboo has any other four-letter word; which at my stage and age in life, I have learned that prudency demands I abstain from indulging in.
I felt that probably an overview of the company & a smattering of the history and development would not be out of place to kick this off.
In it's 112th year from the date of incorporation (in 1905) by my grandfather Ahmed S Moloobhoy, the partners of the firm morphed over the decades based on the additions in the family and legal convenience and family groups ownership.
The primary business of A S Moloobhoy & Sons was dismantling of old mills, bridges and ship breaking and other metal scrap trading activities.
Ahmed Moloobhoy was instrumental in creating the Darukhana Iron and Steel Merchants Association (DISMA) and was the founding chairman.
He was at that time occupying the yards at both first and second Magazine Cross Streets.
Being anxious to expand the member base and the ship breaking and trading activities in the area, he gave away plots to others who were prepared to set up and enter the trade.
He was a kind and generous self made man; always ready and willing to help others in whatever way he was able. The ship chandling business was set up some five years later in the name and style of Ahmed S Moloobhoy & Sons.
More next week...
I would be thrilled to receive blog ideas and topics you would like me write about to my email adil@asmoloobhoy.com
So also, anything related to the maritime industry, by way of current news or events or even inspiring anecdotes from anyone who would care to share.
The idea is to create a weekly fun forum for all of us and of course, make my task easier.
